I remember
\nin the mornings
\nthe bright snow-reflected light
\nin the kitchen window,
\nas though that light
\nshone always in that window,
\nas though it were the antidote<\/p>\n

to the nights
\nwe fled our mother’s rages,
\ntrudging to town and back
\nand around the iced-over pond
\ntill the house had gone dark.<\/p>\n
