Only when afternoon\u2019s unfamiliar
\nlight fills the birch with apparition,<\/p>\n

with aloofness that shimmers in-
\nside bare branches, like a caul of<\/p>\n

silence that overwhelms us to stand
\nstill within this window frame\u2014 this<\/p>\n

grip on a life left, unfinished.<\/p>\n
