Standing here with this mask on my face
\nI watch the starlings leap from wire to sky
\nwhere they swirl and circle and return
\nto the wires to pause before bursting skyward
\nand repeating their performance with stunning
\ncoordination and speed\u2014what the watchers call
\na murmuration\u2014and I\u2019m gripped
\nby the electricity of it all,
\nhow the birds move
\nlike a video gone viral,
\nlike a fear spreading
\nthrough a free society.<\/p>\n
