\ncreaked when we
\ncrossed them,
\nyour work boots,
\none atop the other,
\nthe rental flat
\nradiator\u2019s clank
\nand steamy hiss,
\nhow quickly
\nwe unmade
\nthe bed, carving
\neach other
\nopen, bright
\nagainst the night.<\/p>\n

Maria McLeod<\/strong><\/span>, a Washington-based writer of poetry, fiction and monologues, is the recipient of three Pushcart Prize nominations, the Indiana Review Poetry Prize, and the Robert DeMott Short Prose Prize.<\/em><\/p>\n
