Candace Butler

Today

Today I am eating a banana from Columbia,
drinking coffee from beans
grown in Guatemala
and shipped to Georgia
and out my window
a ruby-throated hummingbird returns
from its long migration
to find the old red birdfeeder
empty.

Candace Butler is a poet, musician, and artist who has lived her entire life in a humble home justa rock’s throw from the Jefferson National Forest in the small, rural town of Sugar Grove, Virginia.
