Julian Olson writes: “I am a high school freshman at Delaware Academy in Delhi, NY. My dad had a poem in here a few months ago.  My poems are better than my dad’s, because mine have a point. … I previously submitted this poem, and you liked the idea of it, but didn’t think it had enough poetry in it. I showed it to my dad, and he reconfigured it, and thinks it’s now better. He said I could send it back in one time, as persistence sometimes pays off. Does it? Let’s see. He changed the meaning of it, but I think it’s funnier. I asked him whether it’s fair that he helped. Does it mean it isn’t my poem? He said he has help on poems all the time, and the great secret of poetry is that it’s a participatory thing, and not just for a solitary genius.”
