Claudia Serea

Against gravity

I dreamed there was no gravity,
only this ring

that pulls us together
with a force lighter than laughter,

an imponderable poem
we share with everyone:

titanium ore
in the belly of the earth,

the fire, breathing
3,000 degrees to melt the metal,

the shape of the mold
and the tools that engraved it,

this poem, the color of robin’s eggs,
the color of robin song,

of this day,
holding us together

against gravity
for the rest of our lives.

Claudia Serea’s poems have appeared in Field, New Letters, Prairie Schooner, and elsewhere. She has published five poetry collections, most recently Twoxism, a collaboration with photographer Maria Haro (8th House Publishing, 2018).
