Mikki Aronoff

Hospice Trick

You hoodwinked us
as you rode away
with the dawn while we
looked at each other,
our heads so heavy in the waiting,
its tenseness on the neck,
that we seized on events
so common, so trivial
and true, that we were laughing
as you slipped elsewhere,
unnanounced, to free fall,
blue-lit.
