Right Angle

Peer inside
the slit the brain
crawls through
to become a cube,

each thought
stretching to resemble
the straight line
that led here,

without curved signs
at the crossing sections
in the road, where
you could have left,

or could have remembered
to stop time, before
it was taken and turned
into a metronome.

Alanna Rae lives in Oakland and attends the MFA Creative Writing program at San Francisco State University.
